A New Look For An Older Home, Inside And Out

The recently retired owners of this beautiful home in Cameron Park moved from a home in North Raleigh. Charmed by the friendly neighborhood and the convenience of Cameron Village, they knew this was a home where they could stay for a long time.

In working with our clients to set their priorities, we determined that a first floor master suite with plenty of storage was a must, as was a spacious new kitchen. Moving the laundry from the second floor and widening the doorways was important to improve the home’s accessibility. Rebuilding the screened porch completed the priority list. Now the kitchen opens to the new den with built-ins and fireplace, and French doors open to an upgraded and roomier screened porch.

Previous renovations left the rear elevation with a hodgepodge of rooflines and tacked-on projections. We designed one new gable roof to contain the den addition, screened porch and master suite closets. We also restored the wood siding, which qualified for a NC tax credit. This complete first floor makeover gives the owners more living space and allows the second story to be used for home offices, an art studio and guest accommodations.
